Should you be in the vicinity of the Gold Coast or Byron Bay, its worth a detour to Kingscliff for breakfast. Kingscliff has become a little foodie pocket on the Tweed Coast, and is home now to Steven Snow’s Fins Restaurant, which over the years has consistently rated as one of the best seafood restaurants in the country.
One of my favourite food memories was dining at Fins when it was located at Brunswick Heads in an old weatherboard house. It was quaint and homely and served up a selection of seafood with a Portuguese slant – due to the influence of Snow’s then wife who was Portuguese and ran the front of house. Sadly, the charming little restaurant relocated to the big swanky Beach Hotel in Byron after the restaurant was knocked down to make way for a new section of the Pacific Highway.
But back to breakfast, our favourite spot in the region is Sbiza. It looks like nothing special, but don’t let that put you off. This place serves up fabulous food. All ingredients are sourced locally.
They also make an excellent coffee and have gluten-free items available.
Here’s a pic of the best BTLA on the planet. Please note that this sandwich is shown made with normal sourdough (not gluten-free bread).
Free range organic scrambled eggs, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and the best bacon we may have ever eaten in our lives.
