Black Star Pastry

This is a quick post to tell you about a discovery I found recently. Black Star Pastry is almost a hole in the wall cafe next door to Oscillate Wildly in Australia Street, Newtown.  There’s a few little chairs and tables and they serve a good coffee, but what got me excited was the food on offer.

So the breads and pastries do look pretty out of this world and I’m sure their crossiants are to die for. For a Gluten Intolerant person, wanting to seek out a venue with Pastry in the title, does sound like I might be some kind of masochist, but I can assure you that surprisingly they had a whole small glass cabinet of gorgeous looking GF items….including a very interesting Chai Brulee which I’ll try next time.

I chose this delectable little item. Layers of almond meringue, cream, strawberries, rosewater and watermelon!  It was so light, even with all that cream. The watermelon provided a lovely, unusual texture and the inclusion of rosewater was totally divine !
I have to confess, I ate two of them.

About Soul Kitchen Blog

Welcome to Soul Kitchen Blog. Sure food ultimately is fuel for the body but made with love is so much more and truly nourishes the soul. As cliche as it sounds, life really is too short to eat bad food and drink bad wine. I have a passion for cooking and a love of good food. I am committed to my quest of searching for fabulous recipes that just so happen to be gluten free. In recent years I discovered that I have intolerance to gluten and whilst its changed my eating habits somewhat, I refuse to allow it to limit my choices to eat well or make those that I cook for feel that they are missing out on anything. My mandate is simple... Feed the body and nourish the soul. I look forward to sharing my journey with you ....
